As a remote worker I find that I am sometimes cut off from training’s and classes that others at my organization may be offered. In an effort to stay up to date on the latest information from home, I have had to search the deepest corners of the internet to find learning resources. I would like to share some of them with you.
Codecademy helps you to learn how to code (or learn a new language if you already can code) in an easy to use interactive environment. Many of these types of tutorials can be found around the net. Learnpython.org is one of many examples. Some persistence and spare time can lead to you becoming the next programmer at your workplace.
MIT offers an astonishing amount of their back courses online for free. If you would like to learn about of subject, you can read the material, do the assignments, and even take the exams. Everything from French to Aerospace Engineering is available. Unfortunately, you cant claim the degree for viewing the online classes.
I know it must sound like a joke, going to Reddit for something other than memes and cat pictures, but it can actually be a great resource. University of Reddit has experts of many different fields constantly offering classes that you can sign up for entirely for free. You can even request or show interest in a certain topic. If enough interest exists, surely there is a Redditor who is willing to teach it. Whether you want to learn self defense, how to train your dog, or how to manage multiple employees, it’s worth a look.
Amazon’s E-Books
Amazon has a huge selection of free e-books you can download and read with no cost to you. Even if you don’t have a kindle you can install the app on your phone or tablet, and read away. They are mostly older books, but it can’t hurt to catch up on some War and Peace.
KhanAcademy is, somewhat surprisingly, not a Star Trek fan site. It is an awesome resource that lets you search and learn about almost anything. KhanAcademy is all about providing free information to anyone who wants it. Are you a student? A boss? A parent? There is something for everyone on KhanAcademy.
