Small Business Saturday, launched by American Express three years ago, has touched a nerve with the American public. Last year, over 100 million shoppers turned out to support small businesses in their community, and consumer awareness of the day at 65 percent doubled from 2010.

The figures say a lot. Americans are putting their money on small business, and rightfully so. You represent 99 percent of all employers in the U.S. and create more than half of all jobs; and that’s not all. You give a lot back to your communities too by supporting local charities, civic organizations and community groups with hours of your time and in-kind donations.

Just how you do it all is a testament to your determination, passion and hard work. There’s little downtime for a small business owners. Even when you’re not in the office, you need to be available to your team, customers, and partners.

Fortunately today’s mobile technology makes it possible to stay connected anywhere/anytime. That’s a good thing but we expect it makes for some pretty funny situations when you have to take a business call.

Standing in line to see the Sistine Chapel, climbing Half Dome in Yosemite, or playing Santa for a local charity and doing business would not be out of the realm of possibility nowadays.

We’ll be rooting for you on Small Business Saturday. We’ll be out in our communities and look forward to seeing you there supporting your fellow small business owners. See you on Main Street!
