{"id":343,"date":"2012-09-27T02:28:12","date_gmt":"2012-09-27T02:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.poly.com\/?p=343"},"modified":"2012-09-27T02:28:12","modified_gmt":"2012-09-27T02:28:12","slug":"keeping-up-your-image-why-you-still-need-to-impress-while-working-from-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.poly.com\/keeping-up-your-image-why-you-still-need-to-impress-while-working-from-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Keeping up Your Image \u2013 Why you still need to impress while working from home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some of us are lucky enough to be allowed to work from home, but others take advantage of this pleasure.\u00a0 People tend to forget that it is not a right, but a privilege that their employers allow them to do their jobs remotely.\u00a0 This is possible in most jobs due to videoconferencing software that allows you to share video with other individuals.\u00a0 Employers expect their employees to stay professional even when working from home, but sometimes the temptation to dress down can make them appear less interested in the job and more interested in themselves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips to help Keep up your Image when on a Video Call<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t forget to dress appropriately \u2013 <\/strong>Wearing your old, ratty, stained, college T-shirt isn\u2019t a good way to win over a client or impress a business partner.\u00a0 You will lose the respect of the person you are talking to if you don\u2019t dress for the job. <strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t lose your natural habits \u2013 <\/strong>It is easy to hit the snooze button at 6 am and delay the shower till later, but it still matters.\u00a0 Just because you don\u2019t have to go into the workplace doesn\u2019t mean you aren\u2019t working.\u00a0 When you get a video call and you look like you just rolled out of bed, it should be embarrassing.\u00a0 Make sure you do what you need to stay looking professional, whether that\u2019s shaving, doing your hair, or something else. <strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep the view area clean \u2013<\/strong> Remember that everything behind you is visible when you are on video, so make sure it looks clean, and that you don\u2019t have anything inappropriate in the background.\u00a0 If you have dirty laundry, old fast food bags, or crude posters, it\u2019s going to make them think you are a pig.\u00a0 Take a minute to clean up and remove any unwanted items from the field of view.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Position the Camera Properly \u2013 <\/strong>No one wants to see a zoomed in view up your nose.\u00a0 Make sure the camera has a good view before starting the call and try not to constantly adjust it while communicating.\u00a0 That can be distracting to the other side and can take away from the meeting.\u00a0 <strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Noise Control \u2013 <\/strong>Make sure you don\u2019t have a TV blaring in the background or a dog barking in the room.\u00a0 It may not be that loud to you, but for others it can be painfully loud.\u00a0 Every had someone put ice in their cup while on the phone with you?
