Hybrid work is happening everywhere, and it’s more than a trend—Poly’s recent persona research, which surveyed more than 5,000 enterprise workers across eight different countries, revealed that 73 percent of employees expect to work from more than one location. Poly is focused on providing innovative solutions and phenomenal features to help these professionals thrive, no matter their workstyle or work environment. Our recently launched Poly Edge E series is a great example and we’re excited to share new two new features now available with the latest Poly Voice Software (PVOS) release 8.0.1.

It’s Easy to Connect

Say hello to Poly Fast Pair! This feature allows users to quickly pair an Edge E series phone with a supported Bluetooth headset, like the Poly Voyager Focus 2. If the Voyager Focus 2 is in Bluetooth pairing mode and within 0.91 m or 3 ft of the Edge E phone with integrated Bluetooth, the phone detects the headset and displays an image of it right on the main screen. To finish the pairing, just press the “Connect” soft key, and that’s it!

This pairing provides three levels of hybrid active noise canceling (ANC) technology and the freedom to move about your office or home while on a call. You can easily grab a document off a printer, refill a beverage or just stand and stretch. Sounds pretty nice, right?

New Settings for Color Vision Deficiency

Phones are a necessary part of daily life and yet they are not all designed inclusively. This is an especially meaningful pain point for those with impaired vision and for the IT decision makers who are doing their best to accommodate a diverse workforce. According to the UK National Health Service, “red-green” color vision deficiency is a common problem that affects around 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women.

Poly Edge E series phones have settings to improve screen readability by adding a color filter on Poly Edge E series phones. The available color filter settings include:

  • Greyscale
  • Protanomaly (Red-Green)
  • Tritanomaly (Blue-Yellow)
  • Deuteranopia (Green-Red)

With features like large and bold font options, text-to-speech technology and a color filter, the Poly Edge E series phones are incredibly inclusive devices, making them a great fit for a diverse workforce. All of the accessibility features are outlined in the Poly Edge E Series Phones Accessibility User Guide.

Solving Hybrid Work Challenges with the Poly Edge E Series https://blogs.poly.com/solving-hybrid-work-challenges-with-the-poly-edge-e-series/ Mon, 15 Aug 2022 15:30:34 +0000 https://blogs.poly.com/?p=24888

Return-to-office planning has IT decision makers brainstorming how they will change phone set ups to suit their company’s hybrid working model. Welcoming workers back into the office with setups from 2019 and early 2020 would be chaos. Those phones were fine for personal, basic office use, but they are not designed to support the hybrid work model so many companies are embracing.

Frost and Sullivan forecasts that 47 percent of workers will be hybrid and 30 percent of office spaces will be dedicated to hoteling. What’s even more interesting, is that they predict that 30 percent of the companies surveyed will be providing desktop phones to their remote workers to help them be as productive as possible.

Can today’s desktop phones really meet the evolving needs of a post-pandemic professional—in the office and at home? Yes, yes, they can, and Poly is proud to introduce the Poly Edge E series to help empower hybrid teams.

Introducing the Poly Edge E Series

Our Poly Edge E series is thoughtfully designed to meet the challenges of a hybrid workforce. The first thing you’ll notice about these phones is their attractive design. The look, feel, texture, lighting, and the thoughtfully crafted user experience—everything about them is inviting.

And the sound? It’s Poly’s signature professional-grade audio quality through-and-through, delivering the crystal-clear conversations users expect. All this while Poly’s Acoustic Fence and NoiseBlockAI technologies keep conversations on track by eliminating distracting background noise, like a coworker’s chatter or a roommate’s call going on in the background.

The post-pandemic workforce is also concerned about germ-spread in the office and at home. Microban® antimicrobial product protection is an awesome feature that solves this concern and it’s now an inherent part of the Poly Edge E series phones. It’s been added during the manufacturing process for the entire series, meaning it won’t wash off or wear away. But, more than anything, the Poly Edge E Series is a solution that makes hybrid work easy for users and IT decision makers.

Easy to Pair

Anyone in the office or at home who likes to step away from their desk to pace and think or just to visit the kitchen will enjoy the Poly Edge E series’ Bluetooth pairing ability and range. Users can easily connect their Bluetooth headset to their desk phone with the Poly Edge E220, E320, E350, E450 and E550 models. Not only can you pair your Bluetooth headset, but you can also pair your smartphone. This allows users to answer their mobile phone’s incoming call from the Edge E desk phone and take advantage of the phone’s advanced noise blocking features. In a hybrid working environment, that’s a game change as it makes for a seamless communications experience.

Easy to Install and Support

Many home offices and some newer office buildings are not wired for ethernet. Instead, these spaces rely on Wi-Fi for connection, making the Poly Edge E350, E450 and E550 phones a natural fit. When these phones are first powered up, the Wi-Fi setup screen is presented immediately—no hunting expedition through the settings required. It’s that easy.

Easy troubleshooting and access to ongoing support is equally, if not more, important for a hybrid workforce. The good news is that all Edge E series phones offer new diagnostic tests and a configurable support contacts menu, making it simple for users to self-test their phone or contact support as needed. Just remember that a Wi-Fi connected phone requires a power adapter accessory when not powered over via ethernet.

Easier with NFC Technology

Hot-desking or hoteling has been around for a while, just like hybrid work, but it traditionally features a manual login process via a password or a pin code, which are shockingly easy to forget. Unlike other desk phones, the Poly Edge E series is designed with near-field communication (NFC) technology, which service providers can leverage to simplify the phone’s hot-desking assignment. Imagine opening an app on your smartphone and using it to make the Edge E desk phone yours for the day. Android smartphone users can also use NFC to simplify mobile phone pairing to the Edge E phone. Desk phones with easier hot-desking and simpler mobile pairing are the kind of solutions that makes hybrid work easy to support.

Easy to be Inclusive

Phones are a necessary part of daily life and yet they not typically designed inclusively. This is an especially meaningful pain point for those with impaired vision and for the IT decision makers who are doing their best to accommodate a diverse workforce. Fortunately, the Poly Edge E series was designed to be more accessible, offering features like text-to-speech capabilities and customizable bigger or bold fonts.

When the new text-to-speech feature is enabled, the phone will audibly announce the incoming caller displayed. Audio confirmation of feature keys pressed also empowers the user with the confidence to have smooth, professional interactions. It’s features like these that make phones more accessible and, therefore, more inclusive.

Taming IT Chaos with Supporting a Hybrid Workforce is Easier with the Right Technology

The Poly Edge E Series are our most versatile, inclusive phones to date. They make it easy for IT professionals to equip their hybrid workforce so everyone can work effectively from wherever they need to be. Recognizing the value in our Poly Edge E Series, many service providers who support Poly Open SIP IP phones are currently in the process of certifying and onboarding the Poly Edge E series.

The Poly Edge E phones are available to order now and will begin to ship worldwide in August. To learn more, reach out to your Poly Sales representative or, visit Poly.com.

Call With Confidence on New Poly Edge B Series Phones https://blogs.poly.com/call-with-confidence-on-new-poly-edge-b-series-phones/ Wed, 27 Oct 2021 08:00:55 +0000 https://blogs.poly.com/?p=23241

Poly is pleased to introduce the Poly Edge B Series IP Phones, our newest IP desk phone family with a stylish design and the famous professional-grade audio customers have come to expect from Poly. “The overall design and functionality of the Poly B Series IP Phones hit the entry-level sweet spot for small businesses, emerging markets, and even some enterprise use cases,” says Osman Bicakci, Product Portfolio Manager for Poly Edge B Series Phones. The Edge B Series phones are available in 2- and 4-line key models supporting 8- and 16- line key assignments.

Fast access at a Touch of a Button

Poly Edge B10 and B20 allow users to quickly cycle through and access available features like speed dials and extra lines with a fast access pagination key. The B10 and B20 devices each support two hard-line buttons and four additional pages for fast access. The Poly Edge B30 has four hard-line keys providing access to sixteen additional key assignments in the same fashion.

Cut Out the Background Noise

Eliminating background noise keeps your conversations on track. Poly does this with our proven Acoustic Fence technology that is built into every Poly Edge B Series phone. Pick up the handset or use your corded headset, and the background noise around you—background conversations, typing, dogs barking, leaf blowers blowing—disappears at the other end of your call.

At-a-Glance Status with Key Illumination

On mute? Not on mute? “Can you go on mute please” is the dreaded productivity-stopping phrase we increasingly hear on our calls. With the Poly Edge B Series phones, the mute key illuminates when selected. There is never a question of whether your phone is muted or not. You can easily see it at-a-glance. We replicated this design featured with the speakerphone or headset select keys, which also illuminate when selected.

Headsets to Complement your Workstyle

The Poly Edge B Series ensures connectivity to the headset of your choice.  For those that prefer the reliability of a wired connection, we’ve tested the Poly Blackwire 3300 and 5200 Series (using 3.5mm plug) and Poly EncorePro 500 and 700 Series headsets (using RJ-9). For users who desire headset mobility, range, and security, the Poly Savi 7200 and 8200 Series headsets can be used with the addition of the APD-80 EHS cable.  Alternatively, a Poly Voyager Office Base with either a Voyager 4300 UC Series or a Voyager Focus 2 headset gives the ultimate flexibility to connect your computer and headset to your Poly Edge phone. No matter your work style, we have you covered.

Easy to Provision and Install

Deploying the Poly Edge phones is a snap.  Poly Device Management Service provides a central, secure portal to stage, deploy, and manage the Poly Edge phones from anywhere. Using our exclusive Poly Voice Software Lite (PVOS Lite) software, internet telephony service provides can deploy phones without any technicians touching the phones. This zero-touch provisioning option means no more need to dispatch a technician to set up and install the phones.  Just plug it in, and the phone is ready to use right out of the box.

Coming soon to a desktop near you

Many of our Service Providers and Strategic Alliance partners are currently in the process of onboarding the Poly Edge B Series as supported phones on their respective UCaaS platforms. Each provider has its own onboarding process and schedule, but we know that some are already pursuing adding Poly Edge B Series phones on a fast track—so stay tuned. CCX Phones Add Video and Open SIP https://blogs.poly.com/ccx-phones-add-video-and-open-sip/ https://blogs.poly.com/ccx-phones-add-video-and-open-sip/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2020 18:37:18 +0000 https://blogs.poly.com/?p=4265

Video Calling from Your Desk Phone?

We’ve made it personal with video – allowing you to see reactions that you can’t always hear. Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) is not new and neither is video on a phone. What is new is the extent to which remote video collaboration has become “the norm”. The COVID-19 pandemic has many of us working from home and video collaboration is the way we meet. Many of us now spend more time on video calls than we do on voice-only calls. So, how will this impact future phone deployments? Video on phones will become more pervasive. Additionally, just as we expect more features from the next desk phones we purchase — color touch screens, Bluetooth, multiple USB ports, noise blocking with AI technology — we’ll also be looking for video calling as a feature option.

The New Poly CCX 700 Business Media Phone

Poly is proud to announce that the CCX 700 business media phones with Open SIP are now shipping. With Exchange calendaring support, you can easily join your next scheduled meeting with video. The CCX 700 has an integrated video camera built-in that is similar to our popular EagleEye Mini USB camera, a 4-megapixel camera supporting 1080p video at 30 fps, with automatic exposure, white balance, and autofocus. It also has a privacy shutter on top of the phone and support for H.264 AVC and H.264 high profile encoding to round out the video features – simply meaning you’ll be looking your best on every video call. And, it’s easy to install anywhere because Wi-Fi is included.

CCX Portfolio Grows with Open SIP

Additionally, CCX “Open SIP” models, CCX 400, CCX 500, CCX 600 and CCX 700 with order codes ending in -025 are also now shipping. These newest phones in the CCX portfolio run Poly UC Software with hundreds of proven features valued by both Service Providers and customers alike. For example, over 60 Service Providers worldwide support Poly VVX series phones running UC Software.  The CCX Open SIP phones running UC Software will enable Service Providers to quickly bring CCX series phones into their portfolio offerings once they have lab tested and qualified CCX phones on their cloud and IP phone platforms.

Handset or Headset? — You Choose

Now let’s talk options… Do you work best with a handset, no handset, or a headset? We have options to help boost your productivity.

Poly grabs another ‘industry first’ feature for desktop phones with our CCX series. With the CCX 500, CCX 600 and CCX 700, there are model choices available that do not include handsets. For example, an executive with a private office may always prefer using a speakerphone and go with a ‘no handset’ CCX model that takes up slightly less desktop real estate. A Generation Z new hire might always prefer using a headset. In both cases, ordering one of the ‘no handset’ CCX models may be their first choice.

Handsets still have their place though. People do not share their headsets. For common area phones and office hoteling use cases, a phone with a handset will likely always be the model choice. Whether the phone has a handset or not, a Poly headset can make your call 100% handsfree to keep you more productive. Moreover, Bluetooth wireless headsets like the Poly Voyager series connected to your CCX phone free you up to grab your printout from the printer across the room or get a refill on your water, coffee or tea while you’re on a call.

Sound Quality Matters

Poly phones have always had a reputation for excelling when it comes to sound quality. Poly continues that tradition and takes it even further by introducing NoiseBlockAI to the speakerphone of our top performing CCX phones — the CCX 500, CCX 600, and CCX 700. Each of these models support an exceptional frequency response at 100 Hz–20 kHz for handset, headset, and handsfree speakerphone modes compared to most competitor phones that top out at 7kHz for their wideband performance. And, it’s easy to cut out the background office noise or, if working from home, the noise from barking dogs, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and noisy children with award winning Poly Acoustic Fence technology.

A Phone Platform for the Future

Built with Android 9 at the core on the latest chip sets, the CCX series phone has room to grow with future development potential. While the CCX Teams Edition phones (CCX 500, CCX 600) includes a dedicated Microsoft Teams button, the CCX Open SIP series phones (CCX 500, CCX 600, CCX 700) have a dedicated applications button. These buttons remain ‘off’ until a feature is built that utilizes them –– however, you may see them flash on briefly during the phone startup process. Not sure if you need video on your CCX phone today but want to keep your options open? CCX 600 (Open SIP) will also support adding video with an optional EagleEye Mini Camera kit for CCX 600.

Availability

So, by now you may be wondering, ‘Can I buy and install CCX 700 and CCX Open SIP phone models today?’

CCX 700 and the Open SIP CCX phone models are shipping today — however, you may want to wait until your Service Provider completes their testing and officially supports these newest phones in their UCaaS, IP PBX or Cloud PBX environments before you purchase them for your entire office. Or, if you are planning on moving from Cisco, Avaya or some other IP phone service to something newer and aren’t sure where to start, visit our Poly Desk Phones page to learn more about the CCX phones and other phones in our portfolio. From there, you can always get in touch via the “contact us” button, and we’ll guide you to the right solutions — desktop phones, headsets, and/or video, depending on your specific needs.

5 Reasons to Love Poly Phones for Work from Home https://blogs.poly.com/reasons-to-love-poly-phones-wfh/ https://blogs.poly.com/reasons-to-love-poly-phones-wfh/#respond Thu, 04 Jun 2020 18:04:25 +0000 https://blogs.poly.com/?p=4215

Starting in March, the Covid-19 pandemic had every IT department scrambling to figure out how to get their employees working from home. Headsets and video cameras with soft-client based phone apps for voice and video calls were an obvious “best effort” to get connected quickly.  Everyone simply made do with what they could find for this massive worldwide work from home experiment.  Many companies are now considering working from home on a more permanent basis.  A recent Gartner CFO  Survey revealed that 74% of CFOs intend to shift some employees to working remote permanently post Covid-19.  So next up for IT is finding the optimal solution for working from home.  For many employees, that will include a phone.

Let’s look at five of the typical problems encountered in a home office that a Poly phone helps solve.

  • Noise at home
  • PC issues
  • Home networks
  • Support and deployment
  • Work-life separation

Problem: Noise at home

Kids, spouse on calls, vacuums, lawnmowers, barking dogs.  Noisy interruptions get old for everyone on the other end of your call.  And, you lose your concentration thinking about how bad the next noisy interruption may be.  Noise at home is a productivity killer.

Solution

Poly phones have Acoustic Fence noise reduction—your PC does not.  All the sounds of home are no problem with Poly phones.  Just pick up your handset or your Poly headset and you can stop worrying about background noise.  With Poly Acoustic Fence, your phone automatically blocks out the background noise.

Problem:  PC issues

Hearing audio glitches during your call with so many apps, windows, and browser tabs open competing for PC resources? Left waiting for your PC to boot or install an update to get back on your call?  We’ve all been there.

Solution

A Poly phone is “always on”.  Poly phones are purpose-built devices that do not compete for PC resources like soft-clients on your PC do.  A mandatory scheduled PC software update won’t interrupt your call.  Your Poly phone is always ready for your next call.

Problem: Home networks

Most homes are not wired with Ethernet to every room and your kids may be taxing the bandwidth limits of your home network streaming TV or online gaming.

Solution

An IP phone is a dedicated VoIP device and typically has a higher network priority with most modern home routers or mesh WiFi system—without you needing to go into your home router network settings.  Also, many Poly phones can support WiFi.  Poly CCX 600 has WiFi built-in and Poly VVX 250, VVX 350, and VVX 450 phones have USB ports that can add WiFi with the optional Poly WiFi adapter.  Just remember, when you purchase Poly phones for the office, most IP phones are sold without power adapters as the phones are most often powered with PoE (Power over Ethernet).  For your employees working at home, you’ll need the optional power adapter to power the phone.

Poly Phones_vvx250-350-450_Poly Blog

Problem:  Support and deployment

Audio not so smooth on PC client calls?  Experiencing momentary glitches? Hearing things like, “Can you say that again?” Or, “Your cutting out”? You call IT after the call.  But now the call isn’t live and it’s hard to trace the issue.

Solution

Your UCaaS or CCaaS provider, or your IT staff can troubleshoot call quality issues all the way to the Poly phone, which keeps a log of the call quality statistics—that is, if you even have these problems at all.  Poly phones have adaptive jitter buffers and packet loss concealment built in.  Your provider or IT staff do not have the same ability to troubleshoot to your PC.  With management tools like Poly’s Device Management Service and Poly Lens, you have full diagnostic tools to pinpoint issues.  Deploying a Poly phone is easy with Zero Touch Provisioning and they can be drop-shipped to the employee.  The phone automatically contacts the provisioning server and downloads its configuration.  Plug it in and it’s ready for calls.  Talk about curbside pickup—it’s the ultimate in touchless service in the age of Covid-19!

Problem: Work-life separation

Some companies may think “we’ll just pay for the employees’ mobile phone.  It works for sales, why not everyone else?” Here’s the problem—having an employee give out their mobile number means they might get calls any time of day, any day of the week.  And, it can be costly with monthly recurring charges.

Solution

A Poly phone with an assigned DID number—and you don’t have the recurring cost of the employee’s cell phone service.  No dropped phones to repair – no lost phones to replace.

Phones That are Priced Right

Did you know that one of our phones cost about the same amount as an enterprise-grade headset?  Poly phones like the VVX 250, VVX 350, and VVX 450 offer advanced features like Poly Acoustic Fence and USB ports for plugging in a Poly WiFi adapter or the latest Poly headsets.  The new Poly CCX series phones offer touch screen performance and introduce new model choices without handsets for users who always prefer to use headsets.  Poly offers model choices suitable for all types of users, from office staff and contact center agents to managers and executives.

voyager-office-vvx450_Poly BlogIf you have employees who want to use one headset with video calls on their PC and with their phone, consider combining a Poly phone with a new Voyager Office series headset with the two-way base—it’s a Bluetooth headset solution that connects to both your phone and your PC —and there are many wearing styles to choose from.  Now your employee has the freedom to roam, go on mute, take a delivery at the door, or deal with those day-to-day emergencies that you’ll undoubtably have with kids at home.

If you are an end user working from home, please consult with your IT department or service provider before deploying a phone at home.  Phones often have order codes that must be matched specifically to the IP phone service you are using, and don’t forget, you’ll need the power adapter.

7 Things to Ask for in a Microsoft Teams Phone https://blogs.poly.com/microsoft-teams-phone-7-things-to-ask-for/ https://blogs.poly.com/microsoft-teams-phone-7-things-to-ask-for/#respond Tue, 24 Mar 2020 21:35:59 +0000 https://blogs.poly.com/?p=4024

With over 20 million daily active users across 500,000 organizations, Microsoft Teams is the fastest-growing communication and collaboration platform in the world. Many IP PBX customers we speak to are looking into replacing their aging phone systems and phones or migrating existing phones from Skype for Business to native Microsoft Teams experience. With so many options available, we wanted to lay out the important features that IT decision-makers should look for in a Microsoft Teams phone.

1. Crisp, clear audio

Have you ever wondered why some calls sound better than others? The phone you use makes a difference. For decades, the majority of telephones and cellphones had a frequency range of 300 to 3400 Hz. In the office, many phones support wideband audio, typically topping out at 7 kHz. Poly CCX 500 and Poly CCX 600 have an industry-best range of 100Hz to 20kHz—that’s nearly three times the frequency range on the top end compared to other phones, one of the key reasons why most customers appreciate Poly’s signature audio experience.

Poly CCX phones microsoft teams

2. Supports both Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams

If you’re running your phone services on Skype for Business today, you may soon start migrating to Microsoft Teams. Still, you need new phones as your business grows. If you need to purchase new phones ahead of your move to Microsoft Teams, it’s important to plan ahead and select phones that can run both profiles without having to do a software firmware update.

The Poly CCX 500 and CCX 600 can run both Skype for Business and Teams on the same firmware release (just not at the same time). Poly CCX 400 currently runs only Microsoft Teams, but there is an upcoming software release that will allow it to run both Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams.

3. Integrated Bluetooth

Most users prefer a Bluetooth headset that they can connect to more than one device throughout the day. Having integrated Bluetooth in the phone itself is a feature of both CCX 500 and CCX 600 phones. These two phones also have two USB ports (type A and type C), an RJ9 headset port, and an EHS (electronic hook switch) port, so there are many ways to connect headsets of all types—though I’m sure you’ll love making your headset a Poly headset.

4. Fast Android 9 performance

Poly designed the CCX series phones with fast performance and future features in mind — starting with Android 9 capable chip sets. These promise a longer lifespan than previous model phones from other vendors that started with Android 5. It’s hard to predict exactly, but it’s likely that desirable new features coming down the line will not be supported on devices operating with Android 5 or 7.

5. Advanced noise blocking features

In open offices or remote working scenarios, outside noise can be a big problem. An important part of the Poly signature audio experience is noise blocking. Our Poly Acoustic Fence feature removes distracting background conversations and noise— chatter that your callers will hear on other vendor phones that don’t support this feature. Using a headset like the Poly Blackwire 7225 with active noise canceling (ANC) connected to your CCX phone takes removing noise to another level (on your end and the far end).

6. Integrated WiFi

Imagine you are moving into a trendy new office converted from an old warehouse with high-end designer touches—but it’s not wired for Ethernet (doh!). The CCX 600 will be the easy choice with built-in WiFi. Spend just a little more on the phone and save a lot on LAN cabling costs. Even fully wired offices will have some locations that are hard to cable. Or, an executive might want their desk in a different location—not near the LAN jack. We’ve got you covered.

7. Headset options for your phone

In the case that you have decided that nearly everyone in the office will need a phone (a topic we’ll explore in a future blog post), you should keep in mind that your Millennial and Gen Z employees will likely prefer a headset over and handset. Not only is a headset a more familiar way of using a phone for younger generations, but headsets offer a better experience to all your employees, regardless of their age. One significant benefit is that you have two hands free to type while you are on your call. The new Poly CCX phones give you choices. You can select CCX 500 and CCX 600 phones with or without a handset—an industry first!

The question is, what phone-headset combo is right for you?
